Dean Lambdin, Pastor

A Father’s Day Poem

God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle’s flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete

And so, He called it…

Dad

The Pastor’s Corner

Good-Bye

Well, I guess this is it, my final article for the Bell.  I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, “Thank You” to everyone for their support and help as I have attempted to serve the Lord and His Church over the last three years to the best of my abilities along with God’s gifts and talents.  This will be short and sweet just for the sake of not wanting to overdo what can simply be summed up.  It has been a true pleasure to be a part of the family here at Bangor-Liberty and I must admit, I have learned a lot.  This experience will aid in all of my endeavors to serve the Lord in the future.

I want to let you all know that my family and I will be moving to Morrison, IL at the end of this month where I will serve as the pastor of Morrison Brethren In Christ Church.  This is somewhat of a “Homegoing” for Amy and I.  We both grew up in the Brethren In Christ denomination and look forward to returning now as ministers.  We don’t know our address yet because we will also be purchasing our own home for the very first time and haven’t exactly found the right house just yet.

Once again, “Thank You” everyone for all of your love and support to my family and I.  We will always hold a special place in our hearts for all of you.

In His Love and Grace,

Pastor Dean

Camp Quaker Heights News

Update on the kitchen addition: Footings were poured on April 22nd and the concrete slab was done on May 1st.  Despite the wet spring weather much work has been done on the building and it is hopeful it will be in use by the time summer camps start.  Donations for this project can be sent to IAYM or can be given to Scott Davis noted for “CQH kitchen addition.”

Volunteer Opportunities at CQH

June 22-27 - Additional staff is needed for Senior High Camp, as many will either be serving as Young Friends Staff or participating as campers.  Camp Jubilee is July 7-11, and assistance will be needed that week as well.  If you can’t give a week, consider coming every day for the breakfast, lunch or supper.  This consistency allows us to continue to provide excellent service in the kitchen.

May HOC Report

35 from BLFC were involved in purchasing, preparing, serving and clean up for 49 guests.  Our menu was chicken and noodles with peas and carrots, cornbread, mixed fruit cups, dessert pizza, milk and coffee.

THANK YOU to all of our great volunteers who made this service opportunity possible.

Ask Bob R. about his new friend ‘Bob’ and Wayne T. about the attacking table.   Mark your calendar for our next meal on Thurs. June 26.

Three Things in Life!

Three things in life that, once gone, never come back are:  Time, Words and Opportunity.

Three things in life that can destroy a person:  Anger, Pride and Unforgiveness

Three things in life you should never lose:  Hope, Peace and Honesty

Three things in life that are most valuable:  Love, Family and Kindness.

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented.

It was ruled “Gentlemen Only…Ladies Forbidden…and

thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

Check out these and other materials of growth and challenge on the library ledge.

Human Race

A little girl asked her mother, 'How did the   human race appear?'
The mother answered, 'God made Adam and Eve and they had children and so was all mankind made.’
Two days later the girl asked her father the same question.
The father answered, 'Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved.'
The confused girl returned to her mother and said, 'Mom, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Dad said
they developed from monkeys?'
The mother answered, 'Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your father told you about his.'

THANKS!

This is written before our Power Lab starts, but I want to give thanks to all the willing volunteers who have stepped forward to make our VBS ooze and overflow with fun for the kids.  I’m sure many will gain a new understanding of the power of Jesus.  This would not have been possible without all of your help. It’s great to be a part of a church where people are willing to use the gifts God has given them to work as a team for His glory.  May God continue to bless you.

Margaret

Missions News

Thanks to all of you who are taking part in the mission pledges this year for the support of Judy Tatum Davis while she is working at the Kaimosi Hospital in Kenya.  She is presently in Iowa and will be speaking at Yearly Meeting, and then returning to the hospital at Kaimosi.  (Additional news from Judy Davis reported in the Iowa Friend: “As I left Kaimosi Friends Mission Hospital on April 11th there were nine nurses employed through the program set up by FUM and funded by U.S. Friends and Friends Meetings.

Five more nurses are critically needed to have adequate coverage at the hospital.  Nurses’ salaries need to be increased by at least 50%, if not 100% to be compatible with government wages - the government pays double the nursing salary compared to what the hospital pays.  And staff (including nurses) living quarters are deplorable and need to be improved.”

Mike and Kay Cain will be retiring from the Friends School for Boys in Belize at the end of this year.  They would appreciate notes of appreciation from us.  Their mailing address is PO Box 454, Belize City 00106,   Belize.

Joyce Ajlouny, Director at the Friends School in Ramallah, has spent this year in the United States going to school to become better prepared for her position there.  Let’s continue to pray for her and her family as they make plans to return to Ramallah.

Victor and Brenda White tell us that they are planning a VBS and SOARING EAGLES CAMP at the Mesquakie Friends Center sometime the last of July (not sure of date).  Also, Edwin and Janet Rivers will be moving back from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to assist with the work at the Center. They will be of great help to Victor and Brenda as Victor has been diagnosed with a very aggressive kidney disease, which has already scarred 50 % of his kidneys.  He is now on some very strong drugs.  Pray that these drugs will stop the disease or that the Lord will work a miracle and heal his kidneys.
