Living WaterThink about the last time you were thirsty, I mean really, really thirsty. Maybe it was on a hot summer day and you were working outside or you woke up in the middle of the night and your throat was so parched that you had to get up and drink something. We have all let ourselves get dehydrated at times where you can’t get the drink to your lips fast enough. It feels so good as it fills your mouth and runs down your throat creating that feeling in your body that makes you refreshed and feel good. We all thirst because it is a need that we were created with; we need water to live. Just as our bodies need this water so do our souls. We were created with a thirst inside our souls that desperately calls out for something to quench and refresh. While the “water” of the world claims that it can replenish, the Bible says otherwise. In John 4:13-14 Jesus says, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Here Jesus is saying that the thirst we have inside our souls can only be quenched by one thing, the spring of living water that He alone gives. The world cannot offer this water because it is not of the world it is of our Father in Heaven and through Jesus Christ his son He offers it to us. Have we asked for our living water yet? -Nathan McCracken

August HOC ReportBecause of kitchen remodeling at the House of Compassion food was prepared and served upstairs to 9 shelter guests and 11 Americorp volunteers. Thanks to all who provided food or funds, or who worked in the kitchen. Our next meal responsibility is September 25th and we may be serving a smaller group again upstairs if the kitchen remodeling is not finished.
Library Ledge: Focus on Prayer The books on the library ledge in September will focus on prayer. A Passion for Prayer seeks to help us develop a prayer habit and a more effective prayer life by sharing principles and challenging us to pray a matter through to its conclusion. The book will strengthen your desire to daily come to Jesus. The Power of a Praying Parent instructs us to turn to God and place every detail of our child’s life in His hands. Whatever your child’s age it is not too late to discover the joy of being a part of God’s work in your child’s life through prayer. The Incredible Power of Prayer will remind us of God’s power and sovereignty. We should never rush off to do God’s work before we have adequate prayer support. Visit the library ledge this month for more encouragement for your prayer life.
School Supplies ReportThanks for the many items you donated for the HOC School Supply project. 770 Marshall County children and youth received backpacks and binders with supplies during the Give-away. Another 75 were given a variety of leftover items at the supply closet after the Give-away. Parents and children have been very appreciative.
Thank You Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your contributions to my FUM nursing mission fund. I really appreciate your support. I hope to spend another three months at Kaimosi Friends Mission Hospital in 2009. Blessings, Nurse Judy Davis
